Waldeyer’s Ring
Definition: Subepithelial lymphoid tissue scattered throughout the pharynx, which aggregates at specific places to form a protective ring.
Components of the Ring
The ring is composed of the following masses:
- Nasopharyngeal Tonsil: Also known as the Adenoids.
- Palatine Tonsils: Commonly referred to as simply "The Tonsils" (Faucial).
- Lingual Tonsil: Located at the base of the tongue.
- Tubal Tonsils: Situated in the Fossa of Rosenmüller (Gerlach's tonsil).
- Lateral Pharyngeal Bands: Vertical bands of lymphoid tissue behind the posterior pillars.
- Nodules: Scattered on the posterior pharyngeal wall.
