Definition: A stone formed within the tonsil due to blockage of crypts in chronic tonsillitis.

Chronic Tonsillitis (Blocked Crypt)

Retention of Debris

Deposition of Inorganic Salts (Calcium & Magnesium)
↓
Formation of Stone
Note: It may gradually enlarge and ulcerate through the tonsil.
Clinical Features & Diagnosis
- Demographics: Seen more often in adults.
- Symptoms:
- Local discomfort.
- Foreign body sensation.
- Diagnosis:
- Easily diagnosed by Palpation.
- Gritty feeling on probing.
Treatment
| Method | Indication |

| Simple Removal | For superficial/accessible stones. |
| Tonsillectomy | 1. Associated sepsis. 2. Deeply set stone (cannot be removed simply). |
